WEST NEWS - May 2026
May is here and so are the flowers; the sun has been shining, the weather has been warming and the pollen count has been soaring! We recently planted the WEST vegetable garden and our Maintenance Crew has been working hard to keep our facility in tip top shape. Summer is right around the corner and time is starting to really fly by!
Coach Carlene and Syunta Lee Attended US National Junior Team Camp at Olympic and Paralympic Training Center
Congratulations to Coach Carlene for being selected to Coach the US National Junior Team Camp at the USOPTC in Colorado Springs and Syunta Lee for being selected as part of the National Junior Team. This is a major honor for WEST and we are so very proud of your accomplishments!
WEST Swimmer Syunta Lee named ISCA Swimmer of the Year!
Congratulations to Syunta for being selected as the International Swim Coaches Association’s 15-16 year old Athlete of the Year!
Swim-A-Thon Recap
We held our annual fundraiser Swim-A-Thon last Friday and Saturday. We saw strong performances across every group, with swimmers continuing to build endurance, confidence, and consistency in the water. Our top yards/minute performer for 2026 was Neil Deng (Junior Group) with 83.3 yards per minute. We also saw incredible improvement across the team. Our most improved swimmer this year was Ruthie Zhong (Age Group), who increased her pace by over 23 yards per minute compared to last year. An amazing jump! We’re especially excited to share that we had 20+ swimmers complete their very first Swim-a-thon this year, a huge milestone and a big part of what makes this event so special. A big THANK YOU to all that were involved and helped support our athletes! Each group is working towards a Pizza Party goal, so keep those pledges coming. Check your group’s progress thermometer in the lobby at the WEST pool entrance!
Club Team Olympian Clinic - This Weekend!
The Club Team is bringing in two Nationally recognized swimmers this Friday and Saturday. Both Ryan Erisman Jr and Kenny Barnicle swim for Cal and will bring a unique and valuable perspective to share with our athletes! Especially as a small team, we are fortunate to be able to provide such a special experience for our swimmers.

In conjunction with our upcoming Swim-A-Thon, we are offering multiple corporate sponsorship packages. We have three tiers of sponsorship ranging from $600 to $1500 and include different levels of advertising and benefit for corporate sponsors. We receive many negative reviews from people who disagree with our policies or don’t get their way and are disgruntled. We know there are positive interactions and experiences happening but often people only take the time to write negative reviews. There are also scammers out there who post negatively and then companies offer to erase them if we pay (which we refuse to do). We work very hard to maintain a great experience for all our members and sometimes hard decisions have to be made for the balance and betterment of our greater swim community. Physical Therapy at WEST
We are thrilled to announce that world-renowned physical therapist Dr. John Mullen is now seeing patients right here at WEST! Dr. John specializes in swimming-specific rehabilitation and performance, having worked with numerous World and Olympic Champions. Whether you are recovering from an injury or looking to optimize your power and mobility in the water, Dr. John is here to help our WEST family stay healthy and fast.

We are looking ahead to the Summer Schedule and I’ve posted it below. Please note we will switch over to the Summer Schedule on Monday 6/22 and it will run until Sunday 8/16. We will be closed for our annual maintenance 8/17-8/30 and will reopen for the 2026-27 year starting on Monday 8/31!
