In 2013, she moved to Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics to head the pre-senior group of swimmers ages 13-15. She has coached swimmers through the Junior National Level, including several Pacific Swimming Outstanding and Record-Breaking swimmers and relays, with athletes consistently ranking top 10 for their age in USA Swimming.

She graduated with a degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in Jewelry and Metals and a minor in Art History. After her collegiate career, she stayed and trained at Purdue, completing her career with the 100 and 200 fly at the 2008 Olympic Trials.
In her free time, Carlene loves to work on her startup (FastSwims) swim, walk, read, and spend time with her family.
Jason began his coaching journey in September of 2017, with the Bozeman Barracudas. He started with the newest age group swimmers before several moves landed him as a coach of the pre-senior group with swimmers 10-14. During his time, the group saw an increase in state, regional, and zone level swimmers, as well as several senior sectional level qualifiers. Coach Jason also helped the team win the State titles in SCY and LCM in 2022, and the LCM title in 2023, as well as setting over 35 new Montana State Swimming Records. Jason has also helped several swimmers reach top 100 rankings in multiple events, and coached regional and zone champions.
Jason grew up swimming in the Pacific Northwest, where he also became a lifeguard and swim instructor. He has been teaching Learn to Swim and Red Cross classes for the past 14 years, and enjoys sharing the life saving skills that are offered by those programs, as well as introducing a passion for a lifelong sport.
When he is not on the pool deck or watching swimming, Jason enjoys fishing, camping, paddleboarding, and exploring new areas.
Mary (she/her) grew up on the Hamakua Coast on Hawai'i Island and has been in the water for a majority of her life. She started her swim journey with county-based novice teams, and later joined USA Swimming through Hilo Aquatic Club. After graduating from high school, Mary swam for Pacific Lutheran University while earning her degree in History.
Mary has coached and taught swim lessons to athletes of all ages, but especially enjoys working with 12 & under swimmers. Before joining WEST full-time, she coached part-time with both Metro Aquatics and then University Place Aquatic Club in Washington. She also worked in college admissions at the University of Puget Sound, where she supported high school and college students as they prepared for life after graduation. Mary is excited to bring her experience to WEST and continue helping swimmers grow in and out of the water.
In her down time Mary enjoys exploring outdoors through hiking, backpacking and paddleboarding, or unwinding by reading and listening to podcasts.
Mariana joined WEST in 2020 and currently leads the Fundamentals (8 & Under) and Development (10 & Under) groups. She’s passionate about working with younger swimmers and building a strong foundation for long-term success in and out of the water. Since taking over these groups, Mariana has helped athletes qualify for Summer and Winter Age Group Championships, Northwest Regionals, and earn selection to the Pacific Northwest Zone Team for Western Zones.
She also serves on the ASCA World Clinic Committee, where she contributes to the future of swim coaching through education and community leadership.
Originally from Morelia, Mexico, Mariana began swimming at age 10 and went on to compete at the collegiate level while earning her Business Management degree at the Technological Institute of Morelia. In 2018, she moved to the U.S. to continue her studies and has since combined her love for swimming, youth development, and community engagement through her work at WEST.
Outside of coaching, Mariana enjoys early morning hot yoga, trying new foods, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with her fiancé, family, and friends.
Jon grew up swimming on WEST, represented the Philippines internationally and was a student-athlete at Stanford University.
Jamie joined WEST in Spring 2025. She brings a wealth of experience and oversees our Learn-to-Swim program responsible for the next generation of WEST swimmers!
Joselen learned to swim in the warm beaches of Pensacola, Florida. Growing up she did not take swim lessons, instead learned different techniques and skills from friends in backyard swimming pools. It wasn’t until 15yrs old, when Joselen decided to become a lifeguard at a summer camp, that she learned how to properly breathe in freestyle.
In 2016 she moved to Washington and began working at WEST Coast Aquatics in April 2022 as a swim instructor, learning as much as possible (shout out to Coach Mariana!) and soon became our Head Lifeguard and then Recreational Team Head Coach.
The swim knowledge Joselen has today was mostly acquired from the supportive coaches and staff here at WEST Coast Aquatics! Joselen loves to learn and prioritizes helping people, so working at WEST allows us to not only enjoy our jobs, but also inspire us to become better versions of ourselves. Joselen is currently pursuing a degree in Sports Medicine with a minor in Psychology as she continues her journey to help others become the best versions of themselves!
Theresa’s passion is teaching and coaching swimming. She had a near drowning experience as a child, and feared
being in the water. At the age of 39, she started learning to swim and has since completed numerous triathlons at all
distances, including five Ironman competitions and other open water competitions.
Theresa teaches swimmers of all ability levels including experienced swimmers who want to refine their swim to be more efficient.
She also loves seeing swimmers go from being anxious getting into the water, to becoming swimmers who enjoy swimming in the pool for recreation, and for some, venturing out into open water and competing in triathlons.
Theresa has been teaching and coaching adults for the last 14 years using a systematic and step by step approach. She developed her curriculum through her own experiences in the process of learning to swim, study, our coaches at West, and coaching clinics she attended.
As a new swimmer, you will learn how to breathe, kick, and balance. Once you are comfortable and balanced in prone position, we move to side breathing and balance, then we work on the stroke.
Theresa has helped many people learn to swim, reach their swimming goals, and to enjoy all that swimming has to offer both for recreation and sport.
